Spent the morning trying to get the Internet to work again (I restarted the iPhone, and I could no longer tether), was unsuccessful and put me in a shitty mood for most of the morning.
We headed for Lake Towada via Oirase Gorge. Apart from the roads being narrower in places, it still doesn’t feel that different to Hokkaido. Wide crop filled plains, similar looking ‘modern’ houses and similar sized mountains. Just no Seicomarts to be seen. OK, so the crops aren’t for cows here (it’s mostly rice), that’s one difference.
I wasn’t really sure where Oirase Gorge started, until we were driving in it. I do think that ‘gorge’ isn’t the best word to use, I think ‘river’ would be more correct. There were none of the cliff walls that I would expect from a ‘gorge’, just a river surrounded by very green rocks and trees. The area was beautiful, you didn’t have to walk more than five minutes to find another spectacular sight worth photographing. It was full of mossy rocks/trees, cascades and waterfalls. All the recent rain was working out well for us, as the river/waterfalls were quite full and energetic. It was also far less humid, so that was a HUGE bonus.
The proper way to experience it (I think) is to walk from one end, and catch the bus back. I didn’t want to spend all day hiking it (while it was beautiful, it was the same beauty over and over). The road followed the river quite closely, and most points of interest had almost enough space to pull over to park to check it out. We’d considered parking the car, and getting the bike out to ride up and back, but we didn’t really find a suitable place to park the car.
I have to say, my highlight was Kumoi Waterfall(雲井の滝). It was a 20m, stunningly gorgeous waterfall.
The river was fed from Lake Towada, so eventually the river stopped, and the lake started. We’d been warned that the area was a giant tourist trap, but to be honest, Lake Toya/Akan were far worse. At least here they didn’t have the giant onsen hotels surrounding the shores.
We went for a quick walk around the shore, Risa wanted to re-visit a statue that she remembered from a school vacation. Of course, it was two naked ladies.
Not being able to find much to distinguish this lake from the dozens that we’d seen previously, we didn’t spend too much time here, and continued to head south.
And, leaving Lake Towada was a strenuous, steep and tight mountain pass, really pushing the Delica to make it to the top and out of the caldera.
We made a quick stop in Hirai because Risa had heard about their famous free-range chicken. Most nights we’ve been cooking something super cheap/simple, to make our money stretch further, but it’s been feeling like we’re missing half of the travel experience. We fixed this by trying a delicious chicken nabe (hotpot) and chicken tsukune (mincemeat shish-kebab).
It was only 5PM, so we thought we’d cover a few more kilometres before setting up for the night. And tonight, the lucky town was Kamikoani in their deserted (and slightly worn) michi-no-eki.
１５日目：野辺地—上小阿仁村（かみこあにむら）青森—秋田
朝は、小雨が降っていたが出発までには、晴れた！天気には、恵まれてるなぁ〜☆天気の神様ラブユー♥
朝は、ロスがネットが繋げられず、新しく買い直したバッテリーチャージャーの調子が悪く、そして暑い！と不機嫌（笑 私には、どうしよもできませーん。 朝食は、ツナコーンサンドイッチを作ってあげました☆
目指すは、奥入瀬（おいらせ）！ 北海道の中学生ならだれもが行く奥入瀬、十和田湖です☆ 私が行ったのは、６月でとても緑が青々としていて涼しくていつかまた行きたなと思っていたし、ロスが好きそうだなっと思ったので念願が叶ってよかった！
１０時の時点で３０度。札幌も猛暑日が続いているらしい、、、しかし奥入瀬のなんと涼しいこと！！ 木々がトンネルのようになっていていい具合に日差しが遮られる。 澄んだ川の流れは、目に涼しいだけではなく、心地よい風を運ぶ。 そして滝の水しぶきは、天然のクーラー☆ 多くの岩は、びっしりとふかふかの苔におおわれ、倒木は、無造作に川にかかり天然の橋を造りだし、川の流れは、清らかで絶え間なく、、、自然ってなんて美しいのだろうっ！と改めてうっとり感動させられました。
記憶の奥入瀬は、記憶だけではなく、美しい場所でした☆
奥入瀬をたどり十和田湖を目指す。 ここでは、集合写真をとった記憶しかなかったな、、しかし高校時代の友人の隆見氏は、修学旅行で制服のまま十和田湖を泳いだ英雄として記念碑が飾られているらしい。（記念碑はウソ。泳いだのは実話。） そんなことを思い出し、ベタな修学旅行コースという事で、十和田湖といえば乙女の像。 意外と駐車場から遠かった。ぶーぶー文句をいうロス氏を引き連れやっとこ到着。 北海道でさんざん湖巡りをしたので、十和田湖のロスミシュランはおそらく星一つ半程と思われる。（実際に聞いてみたら星３つ半でした。） あれ、リアクションよりぜんぜん高いじゃん。 なぜか、十和田名物ジャンボ肉マン３５０円にひかれ購入。今考えると別に安くもないし、しかも味はフツー。十和田トリックか、、
十和田を離れた後は、今日の宿探しの為に車を走らせる。いつの間にか秋田にいた。あーなほど、十和田湖が青森と秋田の境界なんだへー。
途中で、比内鶏で有名なひないの道の駅に寄ってみた。 せっかくなので、ロス氏、比内鶏を食べてみたいとの事で、道の駅内にあるレストランへ。 そして、せっかく秋田にきたので比内鶏きりたんぽ鍋を注文！！ スープは、濃厚な鶏しょうゆベース。それにお肉や舞茸やごぼうなどの味が加わりなんとも絶品鍋☆ きりたんぽの香ばしさとスープが良く絡み最高〜。 ちっと高かったけど、おいしかったし名物を食べられて幸せでした♥♥
比内を出たあとは、明日の男鹿半島まで進む為にもう少し前進し、 上小阿仁村という道の駅で車泊することに。 何もない静かなところだー。 ロスは、車のメンテ、私は、ブログ書き書き。
今日も楽しい一日でした☆ ぐっな〜い☆☆
