We made the most of the short time I had back in Yakumo to see a friends in town, and although it had only been three weeks since I was last here, it was still nice.
We had originally planned on making an early start and heading to Shikabe/Esan, but we were late leaving, and things in town took longer than we anticipated. Especially the insurance people. Insurance is a ball ache. I think I have proper coverage (medical/vehicle). At least Risa was there to help me. I also had to make use of some of the tools in the Yakumo Board of Education, to modify a mount that I needed to make for the rear carry rack on the ‘cub.
After a few false starts (both of us leaving something behind), we made it to Hakodate around 3PM. We went and made our booking for the 5PM ferry to Oma, then had a special Hakodate meal. Lucky Pierot! Haters are gonna hate, but I really like Lucky Pierot’s burgers. Can’t comment on their curries etc, because I’ve never been swayed away from a burger. It’s a real shame that Lucky Pierot is only in Hakodate. Oh, and each Lucky Pierot restaurant has a different theme to it, the one at the port is ‘Elvis’ themed. Inside the restaurant are hundreds of Elvis photos/memorabilia, along with an Elvis soundtrack.
Ferry, as always, was uneventful. Sat on an uncomfortable patch of floor, we worked on our homework/blog as well as trying to highlight places of interest to us in Tohoku/Honshu. We were able to roughly map out where we wanted to go tomorrow/tonight. The ferry arrived at 6:40, which is about half the time that it takes to catch the ferry from Hakodate to Aomori City…
Once off the ferry, we headed down the west coast of the Shimokita Peninsula, towards Hotokegaura, what was described as ‘interesting rock formations resembling the head of Buddha’. We always heard about how wide Hokkaido roads are by comparison to Honshu, and within 5 minutes of being off the boat, we realised it. They were not only narrow, but also incredibly winding. It would have been an amazing drive, had I been in anything other than the Delica.
By the time we got to Hotokegaura car park, it was completely dark. No street lights, no other cars, nothing. Just an amazing clear night sky (we could see the milky-way). We could also see a large electrical storm in the distance, which if it weren’t for the army of mosquitoes, we yott have sat outside and watched the lightning, just like back in Australia.
Before long, the beautifully clear sky was completely overcast, and the first signs of rain started …and we could start to hear the thunder, which kept getting louder, and the rain got heavier …and it got hotter, and hotter in the van. It was well beyond ‘discomfort’. But, due to our general fatigue, we fell asleep pretty quickly, only to be woken occasionally by the odd nearby crash of thunder.
13日目：八雲—仏ヶ浦
今日の目標は、一気に本州上陸！！ 函館から青森大間までのフェリーは、５時出航なので、八雲での用事を済ませ、恵山、鹿部方面を経由して函館に向かう予定☆
まずロスの元職場にあいさつに行く。いつも暖かく迎えてくださって、みなさんに会う度に心があったかくなります☆ ロスもいつも言っているけど、人のあたたかさも、八雲の魅力。 ロスは、カブの補強の為に工具を貸してもらいなにやらスチールの板に穴あけを始める。
そうこうしている内に時間があっという間に過ぎ、次は、ロスが２年間お父さんとお母さんのようにお世話になっていた太田さんご夫妻のお家へあいさつに行く。 とても元気で優しいご夫妻☆ おいしい八雲のとうきびとメロンをごちそうになり、旅の話に花を咲かせる。新鮮なお野菜などの旅のお土産まで頂いてしまいました。 本当は、もっとゆっくりおじゃましたかったのですが、残念でした。 いつもあたたかいおもてなしをありがとうございます！今度は、できればゆっくりおじゃまさせて頂きます☆☆
さて次は難関のロスの保険の手続きをしに行く。 なかなかスムーズに行かずけっこう時間をくってしまった。無事すべてが完了するもこの時点で1時。函館までは、余裕をもって２時間かかると考えると鹿部などを経由していくのは、時間的にキビシい、、、昨日の私の忘れ物を取りにロスの職場に戻り函館へ向けいざ出発！ が、２０分程運転したところでロスが忘れ物に気づき引き返す、、、
寄り道せずに函館へ。 フェリーの予約、発券をすませ。ちょっと早いディナータイム☆ 今晩は、ロス君の希望により、函館名物でロスの好物といえば、、、そう、ラッキーピエロ！！ ラッピーは、全店内装がテーマが異なる内装。中には、1年中クリスマス、５０年代のテニスプレーヤー、サーカス、エンジェルなどなど。ここ港町は、エルビスが青春だった頃。がテーマなので、店内と所狭しとエルビスの写真が飾られている。 ロスは、生ベーコンバーガー、りさはオリジナル玉ねぎ抜きカスタマイズ（笑 おいしく頂き、出航までちょっとのんびりし、お母さんとカナダにいるロス弟くんとスカイプ。
そしていよいよ、本番。本州に向けていよいよ出航！！
大間々では、９０分。なんと近い。そしてなぜか終止TVがちゃんと映っていたので久々にTVで世の中をチェック。 揺れもさほど酷くなく、これからの本州のかるー計画をたてる。
１９時ちょっと前、大間到着！ いよいよ本州だー！ 外は、蒸し暑く本州にきたなーとすでに感じられた。 今晩めざすは、仏ヶ浦周辺。 とりあえず噂には、聞いていたが、道がめっちゃ狭い！！ オーストラリア人ロスさんは北海道の道でも狭さを感じでいるのに、本州の道は、さぞ歩道を走行している気分だろう。
うねうねの細い山道（っていっても国道）をひたすら進みかなりの高さの所で仏ヶ浦駐車場に到着！ 今日は、ここを宿にする事に。 外は、満点の星空。しかし、蚊がすごい、、、津軽半島方面では、ここ下北半島とはうって変わって真っ黒な雲が、そしてここからでもはっきりと凄まじい雷が見える。
案の定、約９０分後こちらでも激しい雷雨が始まる。ぴっかん、ぴっかん☆
ちょっと今夜は、寝れるか心配、、
